Michel will talk about post-cognitivist approach of treating emotions. We all know that emotions are the Key. To everything.
The newly raised interesting topic is “Early Maladaptive Schemas”. We can study it from as intrapersonal and interpersonal patterns.
Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMSs) are deeply ingrained patterns of thought, feeling, and behavior that develop in childhood as a result of repeated negative experiences with caregivers and peers. These schemas revolve around one's self-perception and relationships with others, serving to maintain a sense of balance and comfort within the family system.
As individuals grow and gain independence, they often attempt to uphold these schemas, even if they no longer accurately reflect their circumstances. EMSs may remain dormant until triggered by situations that are relevant to the schema's content.
In schema therapy, 18 EMSs are identified, initially organized into five domains. The current model uses four domains: Abandonment/Instability, Mistrust/Abuse, Defectiveness/Shame, and Social Isolation/Alienation. Emotion regulation plays a crucial role in the schema therapy model, helping individuals to manage the intense emotions associated with their EMSs.
